Ding Ware White Glazed Lobed Dish

The ding dish is thinly potted with gentle rounded sides that are flared from a flat central medallion to a lipless rim divided into six lobes by shallow notches and curved edges. Covered overall in an Ivory white glaze except for the edge of the foot rim and a small section in the recessed area of the foot rim, which is left unglazed in a ring shape exposing the white clay body.

Not only were white wares from the Ding kilns in northern China highly desired within the country, they were also exported in considerable quantity to the Middle East, where they proved to be highly popular and had an influence on local production.
